10 skills for competent parents

How can I become a competent parent ? There are 10 abilities that can predict good parenting outcomes, parent-child bonds, and children ‘s happiness, health, and success.

How can I be a good parent? Robert Epstein, “Scientific American” reports:

Decades of research revealed 10 basic parenting skills. A new study of 2,000 parents has determined which skills are most important for developing healthy, happy and successful children.

Giving love and affection is the most important thing. Then, surprisingly, managing stress and building good relationships with other parents are more helpful than some child-centered behaviors.

All types of people are equally capable in raising children-anyone can learn how to be a better parent with a little effort.

The following 10 items are listed in order from the most important to the least important, indicating a strong parent-child bond and the happiness, health and success of the children:

  1. Love and affection. “You support and accept children, are full of affection physically, and spend high-quality one-on-one time together.”
  2. Stress management. “You take steps to reduce stress on yourself and your children, practice relaxation techniques, and promote a positive interpretation of events.”
  3. Relationship skills. “You maintain healthy relationships with your spouse, important other people or common parents, and build effective relationship skills with others.”
  4. Autonomy and independence. “You respect your child and encourage him or her to become self-sufficient and self-reliant.”
  5. Education and learning. “You promote and demonstrate learning, and provide educational opportunities for your children.”
  6. life skill. “You support your children, have a stable income, and plan for the future.”
  7. Behavior management. “Only when other methods of managing behavior fail, you will use positive reinforcement extensively and punish it.”
  8. healthy. “You have established a healthy lifestyle and good habits, such as regular exercise and proper nutrition.”
  9. religion. “You support spiritual or religious development and participate in spiritual or religious activities.”
  10. Safe . “You take precautions to protect your child, and maintain awareness of your child’s activities and friends.”
